I think its a decent, although definitely not necessary, idea. It helps to explain a bit of what we here view as "luxury" (although it is pretty liberal with the definition). I think this could help people see where to post something and where not. As mentioned in some current threads, some people see a Hilton as luxury. This forum does not and the sticky helps imply it.

The biggest problem I see is the wide variations in hotel chain quality, which is especially true for some chains (not so much FS, RC, MO although it is there). For example, some Park Hyatts are top of the line, best in the world etc (like Tokyo) while others are pitiful. It is even more pronounced with Grand Hyatt where you have Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing and New York. That being said, I think that it is useful in "comparisons" like "where should I stay in Tokyo?" where it is competitive but not in threads like "which of the 3 Hyatts in Tokyo is best?"

So, overall, I think it is a nice idea. It provides a bit of an intro to non-regulars here. I might recommend adding links to threads to cities/hotels which have garnered a large amount of discussion or repeat threads (NYC, DC, Bangkok, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris, Bali, Phuket, Chiang Mai, etc). I think THAT would be most useful.
