Also, R-C is near the crest of Nob Hill, while the Palace is at Market and New Montgomery, on completely-flat ground at the threshold of the Financial District and closer than the R-C to the business offices in the South-of-Market area.

Anyone with mobility issues might prefer the level terrain - there's also the historical significance of the Palace to consider.
