Having read
VC10 Boy’s list of what he can manage to squeeze into his bag (and rather a smart list it is I must say

), I’ve decided to consider investing in a Tumi T3.
I popped into Selfridges last night and had a look at the various T3 wheeled carry-ons. The 51cm (20”) model would definitely fit within the size limits, but the 56cm (22”) version looked to be a more practical size but is slightly larger than allowed. Has anyone had any problems taking this one on BA flights or through security?
However, my real question is around whether these bags are actually worth the rather high prices that Selfridges are asking (51cm = £375, 56cm = £425). They certainly look well made, but there’s a huge difference in price between Tumi and other decent brands. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Finally are they much cheaper in duty free? I’m going to SF in April and could buy one at T1 if the price difference makes it worthwhile.

If they stock the model you are considering it is worth trying John Lewis Oxford Street. JL have a box which allows you to check whether a bag will fit within the new maximum size. I bought a Mandarina Duck Work Bag (wheeled) with integral suiter and I am very happy with it. It just fits within the baggage gauge (but I must be careful not to overfill).
I can't give an opinion on Tumi, I could not find a Tumi bag that I liked with an integral suiter to fit the new maximum size.
