I just signed up for my first Hilton Amex and have an upcoming 3-night stay at a Hampton in a few weeks. I'd originally reserved it with my Citibank American Airlines to get American miles.

Since bonus miles seem to be by stay and not by nights, do you think I'd be able to have them put half the cost on my Citi and half on my Hilton Amex? I obviously want to get the 2,500 points on my Hilton Amex for staying at a property (seems like they give you 2,500 per stay as a bonus on the card) but I prefer to get miles on my Citi American card, which is why I'd like to put some of the cost on that.

My primary goal is to accumulate air miles, but I signed up for the Hilton Amex figuring I might as well get some hotel points as well.
