Isn't it more likely this is just a case of 'what do we do with the plane between trips to Mexico?' This is just a case of efficient use of what would otherwise be downtime - and if it doesn't work, it can be pulled pretty quickly. May as well give it a go and see just how many people will be willing to book it.
