Um, no. You standby at the gate. If you have status and there are lots of seats available, an agent might put you on the earlier flight when you check-in in person at the airport, but I'm not sure what the standards are for that---it was specifically stated the one time that that happened that he was doing that for me since I was Platinum.

Edited to add that following:

BTW, it isn't a 24 hour rule for Silver, it is a "day before" rule. For example, if you are flying at 11:59pm on Monday, you can be upgraded at 12:00 midnight on Sunday (much more than 24 hours). What time zone is this based upon? I have never been able to figure that out. But, I have observed that EUA often occurs early by several hours up to almost a full day.
