Grab a pillow and a blanket — or, in the case of Delta Air Lines, two blankets — lift up the armrests, and one can lie down across three seats reasonably comfortably and sleep.
In 1999-2000, I was on literally scores of redeye flights SMF-ATL. Always upgraded, of course.
As soon as I got my F meal, I hightaliled it back to Y and grabbed a 3-across set of seats, in which I lay down and slept for the 3-hour duration of the remaining flying time.
