While i already agreed that the sociological effects of gay culture are different for everyone, I will say that the above statement is what makes me completely cringe about a sub-group of gay men.
Does it always have to be 'us' and 'them?' If we're going to 'get real' then let's address why you, as a gay man who most likely longs to be accepted into mainstream society on your own terms, still refers to people as 'the straights.'
Seems a little backwards to me.
I won't continue to ramble about my dislike for circuit parties, but in general, i'm a person who enjoys mixing with a diverse group of people in my daily life. I don't live in a gay ghetto, i don't only eat at gay-owned resturaunts, i don't have a HRC sticker on the back of my car, i don't prefer to only be social at gay nightspots and gatherings. Basically, I'm doing my level best as a young gay man to mesh into mainstream society on my own terms, while continually educating others that gays aren't any 'different' than anybody else.
It's only a difference of sexuality. It's not like i have a third arm growing out of my forehead
There's also a whole discussion of why gay society, a group that's been discriminated against for centuries and wants nothing more than human acceptance, is so incredibly inner-discriminatory within the culture.
I think it's good to have these sorts of discussions. While the circuit scene isn't for me, I do hope you guys have fun and enjoy yourselves.
