Cost isn't a big issue, time is, esp if the public transports do not run frequently after 6pm.
Given Virgin Blue closes check-in 30min before departure, that means we must check-in and hand them our 2 rolleraboards before 20:00. Our arrival time is 17:30 - direct flight from CHC to SYD on Air NZ Business Class. I hope 2.5 hours are enough for getting luggages, clear Immigration/Custom, and get to T2 on time I suppose we could do online check-in for Virgin Blue within 24hrs window when we are still in CHC, even I am sure they wont allow us to bring the rolleraboards onboard but to check them? (these 7kg weight limitation on carry-on is very inconvenient).
The route 400 goes past T2 and stops at T3. If you choose the 400 service you can either walk to T2 at street level via the car park or use the elevator down to the walkway and go to T2 past the train entrance.
Around 6:30PM the 400 goes at 10 min intervals weekdays and 20 mins at weekends. Try and get some change. ATMs usually spit $50 and $20 notes and the driver may not like this. The 400 timetable and map can be found from the link on my previous post.
If you decide to use the train, there is a link to normal timetables at the top of the page the trackwork link in my earlier post will bring up. Large notes are less of a problem at the train booking office window but some ticket machines have a limit on how much change they will dispense.
And as
thadocta points out if the trains aren't running because of trackwork there will be a replacement bus service. Technically you are supposed to have a train ticket but ...
Let us know how you get on.

If you do use the 400 from T1, make sure the sign on the front says
Bondi Junction . (Because it's a one way loop, the Burwood service uses the same stop.)
