You can also try getting a prepaid phone from any GSM carrier and unlocking it, sometimes they have some pretty cheap refurbs. I would not recommend getting any dual-band phone, a tri-band would get about the same reception in asia as here *i think*, i forgot the frequencies used but sometimes you can get some aftermarket phones on ebay that say tri-band, but have a different 3rd frequency than the ones sold here.
