I am, of course, already very familiar with the rooms.

Then they politely stand until they are dismissed. What irks me is that I'm not sure whether they're expecting a tip. I know that, generally, I never tip in HK, except by sometimes rounding up my cab fares. However, it's rather unclear at the hotel, at that moment, whether I should be giving them HK$20 or simply saying "Thanks, good night!" and turning to my overstuffed suitcase.

Am I crazy? Anyone care to share their view on this? For the record, it *only* happens to me at the GH in HK -- no other hotels in HK or other countries where I regularly travel.
I've stayed several times. Most times I check in, the person at the desk asks me if they can help me to my room. I always decline. When I am escorted to the room, I always tip a HK$20. Then again if luggage arrives.

The person that I tip the most is the concierge and bellman He is the guy who can get me the best cab, a restaurant reservation when I'm running late, the inside scoop on what is happening on the weekend, etc... And they remember you everytime.

Unfortunately, my corporate rate is not valid for 2007 so I'll probably staying at the Kowloon Ren this year. I've enjoyed the GH immensely and hope to get back sometime, maybe on a reward stay. Hopefully the new Hyatt will open in early 2008.
