I guess goes along the same lines.
I know that jets, when not overly loaded with fuel and passengers, when landing on long runways early or late at night often skip the use of reverse thrust (when not necessary) and glide the runway longer for similar reasons.
Some airports do not open until 6am, I think Heathrow is one of them, so flights that come across the Atlantic a bit earlier due to crosswinds often have to circle 15-20 minutes before landing into LHR.
