Actually, I had similar thoughts about the JAL livery until I saw it in person -- it's far more vivid and stunning in person that in pictures. The pictures tend to 'flatten' the colors and make it look boring.
Hopefully that's the case with the silver/gray in this new livery...but still, except for airline afficionados, whose' going to understand the "circle and divot" tail scheme? I am sure my parents won't figure it out, for example.
