Personal view: Yes, yes, yes.
And although this is also a personal view, I have to disagree most strongly with cartcarol. Sydney and surrounding areas are good for at least a month's visit.

There are some things that are worth stopping to see, but they're not interesting enough for a short trip like yours. If you had enough time to spend a week driving from Sydney to Melbourne, then it would be worth considering. But your time is tight. I'd fly.
You should be able to get a one-way ticket for significantly less than AUD 140. Picking a random date in May, for example, I've just seen lots of availability at AUD 98 (incl taxes).
