Most have celery and carrots around dinner time, some have cheese cubes around the same time. I haven't ever seen free fruit salad. The food to buy is quite good (relative to concourse food, and MIA D has good soup) and priced fairly as well. IIRC ORD had better choices than MIA, but really for the wait in between flights it is far easier than going to the concourse and queueing up for 30 minutes to get a mini pizza for $6.
