I've never understood the fascination of meeting the Captain on a cruise ship. I have cruised many times and on a few occasions, I was invited to eat at the "Captain's Table" during dinner. While eating at the Captain's Table is a nice experience (and truth be told, when one eats at the Captain's Table you don't always eat with the Captain, sometimes it's another high ranking officer on the ship), it didn't really make me all a twitter inside.
In addition, oftentimes it can be difficult to converse with the Captain because english is not his native language.
While it makes no difference to me either way, I say whatever floats people's boat (pun intended).
