I did the same calc for Air Berlin's fabulous version of fuel surcharges: there the charge looked to be waaaay ahead of per-passenger cost of fuel used. Keeps the "fares" low, huh

A caveat is the incompetence/bad-luck of the airlines' hedgers: they may have locked in to high fuel price.
