One thing to note is that some rates advertise Double Airline Miles as a sort of promotion but BD don't count for this. In fact it is only a small number of airlines (mainly US based ones IIRC) that are eligible.

100k+ BD miles need not be that expensive either, particularly at 1000 miles per cheap night.

(Makes good sense if redeeming for first class cash+miles awards.)
