First off, congratulations!
I would personally say (and I am in the process of arranging my own honeymoon at the moment too!) that it's worth figuring out what you want out of your honeymoon first, then figuring out where's the best place to do that.
There does seem to be an 'exotic, secluded beach' trend for honeymoons, or at least an expectation to spend lots and go far away in style (the 'trip of a lifetime' experience). If this is what you want to do, go for it, it sounds great. But don't feel obliged to.
We decided we wanted to go somewhere nice, with good food and good hotels, plenty to do, but close at hand so we can easily return there in the future, so we can just hop on a train and get there. So we plumped for Cornwall, in South-West England, a 6 hour train ride from home. This seems to raise as many eyebrows as if I'd said we were trekking in Turkmenistan, but suits us perfectly.
