For someone whose mother tongue is French (Parisian French) and who then came to Quebec ( and got a good appreciation of the French spoken here and in the Franco-Canadian communities) I will go with the transliteration. The French people are not dumb. When they realize that you are making the effort to speak the language and phonetically make sense, they will accommodate you.
Then, I guess, that's what makes a horserace. I don't think dropping words adds to comprehension.
