We want to do a late season ski trip, and it seems that the lodging rates in Truckee are much more reasonable then those around Lake Tahoe and at the Ski resorts.

Being from Oregon, my question is this? What's it like to drive on the weekends from Truckee to Squaw Valley Ski Resort or Diamond Peak Ski Resort, by Incline Village? How about the trip back in the afternoon??

MapQuest says it's only 12 miles from Truckee to Squaw and about 19 miles from Truckee to Diamond Peak.

Is the traffic horrendous so that we should get up really early? Any thoughts???
