You can avoid being checked by using the CXpress Kiosk to checkin and print your boarding pass (lounge pass too).
Whenever I've done that it has simply resulted in me being checked either at the lounge or at the gate (which is a pain).
I really don't understand why CX can't cope with the concept that people buy tickets for other people to come and visit them.
