Just flew on P.M. Thursday (CDG/IAH - #11) -- memorable flight as it was the last flight for a retiring captain. I was talking with him in the galley and he was hoping that his last flight would be on Max. As we were speaking the F.O. made an annoucement that this was the captain's last flight and spoke very highly of his past 27 years of service with CO. The entire plane gave him a round of applause, whistling and cheers.
When we landed fire trucks met Max and had the traditional arc of water salute for the retiring captain -- again the entire plane gave him a round of applause.
The ground crew parked the plane such that we had to deplane from the forward jetway -- the captain, his wife and daughter (no FAs) greeted each passenger as they left.
It made an 11 hour flight a memorable one.
