French Plat card
French Plat:
- Priority Passes for the main and supplementary card holders
- Hotel status is not clear (it will depend on who you talk to when you call the Plat service. Some people will say no status or that they don't know. You might be able to get HHonoros and Starwood Gold for a year though. I was once told by a travel representative that they didn't know what Starwood was!!!)
- Hertz #1 Gold (you don't need a Plat card to get this...)
- Travel insurance: Rental car insurance, 800 € for emergency purchases in case of luggage delay (450 with a Cent card???), Health coverage
For the luggage delay insurance, it is a pain to make it work: I've done this once: lots of paper work, they will ask you to prove the delay in a way that will make it impossible for you to comply (this is not Amex but a subcontractor). If you call the Plat/Cent service to know for how much you are covered, you will hear a different story everytime you call so it's better to travel with the insurance contract with you (it is big and won't fit in a pocket... If you put it in your luggage and it is delayed... How are u gonna check it out?)
- FHR program
Be aware that the French Plat & Cent service is not reliable at all. Sometimes you will talk to someone very knowledgeable that will do a perfect job.
Most of the times it might be scary and ruin your vacation if you don't check everything they do.
In my experience as a French Plat and then Cent card holder:
- issuing of plane tickets has never been right:
* not being assigned the seats that I wanted and that were available
* Was told a rate over the phone and then was billed more when the ticket was issued
* paid business class fare for a flight and ended with a coach e-ticket: took me an hour to sort this out at the airport since when I realized this and called back the Cent service, they were unable (or unwilling ?) to do anything about it
* I called a week ago to book a ticket, they never got back to me. I had to call them back yesterday. I asked them to book sky team flights and they booked half skyteam half oneworld. The dates were wrong, no hotel booking done and no rental car booking done eventhough I had precisely explained everything. Had to re-explain exactly what I wanted. I will probably end up doing everything on my own to be sure it's done right... Still haven't heard back from them since yesterday.
* They will not add your Frequent Flyer numbers to your e-ticket. So it usually takes 2 or 3 calls to have them do it.
-FHR:
* They don't know much about FHR: just booked an FHR stay where they told me there were no amenities at the hotel (eventhough there is one mentioned on the Amex website). Last year, I booked a stay at a hotel, again with no amenity cause they told me the hotel wasn't part of FHR anymore whereas it was and still is.
* You have to check and double-check everything: sometimes they will forget to mention you're travelling with a child or book a double-bed room when you want a kind bed etc... If you don't mention you want the FHR benefits, you won't get them...
- My Sofitel Gold card expired last month, I still haven't received the new one (I'm probably gonna have to call them back 100 times for this)
- They rarely send emails that you can simply reply to. So it is a pain to reach the person that has sent you the email. No phone extension given to get back to one of their representatives. So sometimes you will talk to someone else that has no clue about your file and start all over again.
- Good things:
*Their club access program that usually works (only for Cent card holders)
*The FHR rates are great but you have to make sure they do things right (that's why I stick with Amex)
Of course there are good things too, but it's the things that go wrong that usually tend to stick in my mind. The only thing I know is that they can't be trusted
If you can have your Plat card issued in a different country, it will probably be safer...
