Tony, you're correct -- I mis-stated that. I meant to say that the rules for carseat use seemed to be left up to the airlines' discretion, whereas the US law mandates that flight-approved carseats must always be accomodated. The UK rules for belly-belts indeed mandate their use for infants < 6 mos.

Generally I like flying flag carriers, but when I travel long distances over the water with a baby, I try to stick with US carriers wherever possible, b/c I really like having the assurance that I can strap jr. into his carseat and get some sleep myself.
