I'm surprised at that - one wonders what would happen if you hit 10k, got the voucher number, made the 241 booking, then effected a refund to the Amex which took it under the 10k at statement date. I guess you would start with a 'minus' when accumulating to the next year's 241.

I have done this once and you do end up with having to have Q spend of over £10K the following year.
The only way to avoid this would be to trigger the voucher in month 11 rather than month 12 and then do the refund in month 12. You would start the new year at zero.
