It's not just the Internet. I once called the Irish embassy to enquire as to whether I was eligible for Irish citizenship. I had looked at the relevant legislation and didn't think I was (my stepdad adopted me in Canada after I was 18) but thought I'd check.

The embassy said oh sure, of course you are. However, when as directed, I contacted the Adoption Board in Dublin, they confirmed that, as I thought, I wasn't.

So for inquries out of the ordinary, it appears there not always quite on the ball even if you call. As for having a website, well that's clearly too much to ask.
