A 4 hour lay over may seem like a long time but the traffic in Barbados is a nightmare so that would impact how far you could venture. I would recommend trying the small bar at the entrance to the airport. Nice place to meet and hang out with some locals. If you want to go a bit further try heading to Silver Sands beach or St. Lawrence Gap but bear in mind that traffic could be a killer.
