OT:16 years, and perhaps it's time to say goodbye?
Well it happened, the shoe finally dropped. The little town I have lived in for 15 years became a city and with it's last gasp of air came a foul odour........The town council on it's last meeting decided to accept a proposal for a university to have it's campus here. (kind of late to the party, but we will get to that)The university will be located in some remote area of the town some 4 KM away from the JR station with no public transport or other infrastructure nearby(apart from the towns incinerator next door). The town will give the land forever, tax free, to the university. This in itself should have struck fear into a town, that as a whole, has already no tax base and what is left is rapidly leaving. During the course of this debacle, opinions were asked of the townsfolk. A large group of farmers proposed that if there is to be a University that it should NOTallow foreign students as they would bring crime! This proposal was forwarded to the town council which accepted the it with a vote of 17-3 in favour!!!!
Hey, I'm a reasonable guy.......but Prejudice is prejudice is
prejudice! It reminds me of the more recent central government decision to have us all finderprinted and photographed when we enter and leave the country (except the Koreans).
I have put good money into my school here but now I really feel that it has been a giant waste. 15 flippin' years and nothing has sunk in with my bigotted neighbours. I am ashamed to live here........It really all stinks. Anyway it's all starting to come clear what a bunch of AHO'S the town council was......the new city council is of course trying to distance themselves from this decision but that should prove difficult ,even in this teflon society.
Getting to the University, it would seem that the dantai that will run it is affiliated to a large international hospital in Kurume... I sure the board of regents will be most pleased to know that one revenue stream will not be allowed to apply to go to the new University. I would also like to add that the education business is not what it was and with declining enrollments there has been some restructuring but for the most part it has yet to come! They will supposedly build this campus with-in one year and hope to get 800 students.........Yep.........So anyone want to acquire some cheap land with some great buildings on it with -in 4 years...........Wait I'm sure there will be a fire sale!
