The height of the aircraft would have only minimal impact on its speed. Certainly the crew would not be at cruising speed when they did this.

And bear in mind that with air pressure and density significantly lower at 37000' than near ground level the aeroduynamic and hence noise impact wouldn't be so great anyway.
