He was Chairman of the British Horseracing Board but I think has given that up. He's President of the CBI (no remuneration?). But pre-BA he was also Chairman of BAT for several years; if anyone cares to check out past annual accounts, I'll bet that wasn't for £300K pa.* I doubt there's a rotting terrace to renovate!

Also, the Independent story gives no indication that anyone other than a solo Mrs B was involved.
