You hit the nail right on the head Minicooperman.

The problem that I have is that I KNOW that the Aeroplan call centre waives the booking fee when the website is down and you need to make a booking ...

The theory behind that is that you DO NOT have a choice in making the booking.

What is the difference between that and booking an open jaw with a Star Alliance partner?
