Was on NW flight where plane was 30 feet from gate. Someone went to bathroom. Pilot STOPS plane. Announces that plane wont move till person finishes bathroom. We wait 2 min. Person sits back down. 30 seconds later we are parked and dismissed. Is this normal for NYC airport?

I thought there was only a rule while plane was flying
