Hmm...

1. You could try to route yourself over the Pacific using CO and NW. For example, you could try CMH-EWR/DTW/MSP/IAH-NRT-KUL-SYD.

2. Did the agent try using MH directly from the USA? MH operates service to KUL ex-LAX and EWR, such that a CMH-EWR-(DXB fuel stop)-KUL-SYD routing may be possible.

3. If all else fails, you can use CO to CNS (CMH-EWR/IAH/DTW/MSP-NRT/HNL-GUM-CNS) and buy a ticket on to SYD.
