And always remember that if you find it's colder (or warmer) than you've anticipated, it is a wonderful excuse to buy yourself something which is both useful AND makes a great souvenir. One of my favourites is a T-shirt I bought in Perth (Aus not Scotland) and (yes okay I admit it's got koalas on it but they're very tastefully done) I think of that visit whenever I wear it. Top of my list is a cashmere jumper (dresses up or down and it is unprickly enough to wear in bed if it's cold), stretchy slacks, a jacket and comfortable shoes or boots. Shirts that don't need ironing, a couple of scarves, knit type skirt (again no ironing) something for evening wear - anything else I need I will buy, especially as what is fashionable in one continent might not be in another.
