I very rarely speak French to the Air France in-flight crew, and on hundreds of Air France flights in business (and first) I've not had any in-flight service personnel issues. I've also had no issues with Air France in-flight service personnel in long-haul coach either on about the same number of flights. In my opinion, CO's in-flight service is pretty decent but it's not leagues better than Air France's. (Don't get me started about CO's ground service which -- save the lounge personnel -- has been just as bad -- or worse -- for me than AF's ground service. )

In any event, don't let me get in the way of the "believers", one way or the other.

On NYC-CDG, I'd rather fly AF JFK-CDG than CO EWR-CDG. For one, AF's lounge at JFK is -- save some internet issues -- more attractive than CO's EWR lounges.
