Ex-NRT, booking with CX?

All,

I am considering starting another RTW trip from Asia. Surprisingly, Japan seems reasonable at present according to Expertflyer. It also works well as I can get there using some Virgin Atlantic miles. Plus I like travelling around Japan!
So...before I hassle you all to check my itinerary, does anyone have any recent experience of booking an AONEx with Cathay? I would rather book direct with the airline rather than a travel agent. Would emailing CX in HK and asking them to sort it out, for me to pay at NRT work? Any thoughts? My first segment will probably be NRT-HKG.

Thanks as always!
