Ah, well you might have said so. To save a lot of money (at the cost of time and convenience, which is typically not an issue for backpackers), you want to fly from Shenzhen to Chongking. Elong is my site of choice for inter-China tickets, as they will sell an e-ticket that I can buy with a US-issued Visa card and pick up at the airport.

Elong fares for SZX-CKG 1-way for a random date 4 weeks out is RMB510, which is about US$65/CAD$75.
