But, for strictly a STL-SGF trip, it's cost-prohibitive for a distance that can be driven in 4 hours or less. STL-MCI is about the same amount of driving time or less, but IIRC, the STL-MCI fares were always pretty competitive.
Yeah, I think those fares are in line with a lot of other easily-driven routes. For example, it's cheaper (~$400) to fly BNA-MEM-AMS on NW than it is to fly BNA-MEM (hard to get for less than $600)
