Thank you for the valuable information. Yes I fly out of EFD for the exact reason, it is a bonus 1,000 miles for a 30 minute flight. The only difference is a small landing fee for the extra segment sometimes (no more than a dollar or two). I prefer as many layovers as possible because of the extra mileage. When my Mesaba flight out of LAF was cancelled I had them book me on CO from IND connecting in EWR just to earn a lot more mileage. They looked at me like I was nuts, but did it anyway. I guess everybody here knows that look the agent give you.

I understand about the on-line booking bonuses, kiosk check-ins bonuses etc only applying to the metal you are flying on. That was a drawback I saw when flying on CO with a Worlperks FF. In the long run like you said flying into LAX from IAH on CO earns you a lot less than connecting in say MSP or DTW on NW. I have seen flights from IAH going to NRT with a connection in New York to hop on a NW747 for Tokyo. Nice =)
