LH does their announcements in German and English only. Never, ever, ever, have I observed them speaking Afrikaans in their announcements; when I was chatting with an LH purser in August I asked about this very same thing, and he confirmed that it's only German and English on this route.
So while you may have heard Afrikaans once (or German, which you mistook for Afrikaans, which would be pretty hard to do), it is NOT the norm, and nobody should expect this on LH.
I hear English and Afrikaans on almost all domestic SAA flights.

These days, the SA announcements seem to be in English only, with maybe 'welcome on board' or the 'thanks for flying with us and goodbye' bits in Afrikaans (as well as English and sometimes Zulu / Xhosa). Nor sure what the 'policy' is. But the days of "today English first and Afrikaans next and tomorrow the other way around" are definitely over.^
Agree with Will, Lufthansa only in German and English
