I have AE miles in the high six digits. I have been earning them from both AE and CP for over 20 years, so I have no idea when miles not used were actually earned. And I do keep an Excel spread sheet to track my current year earnings but would have to go back four computers to start tracking AE miles from seven years ago! Nor do I think that as a "loyal customer and member" that it is I who must now spend several hours attempting to discern which AE miles will expire when since it was AE who only recently changed the rules and deemed miles would expire after 7-years.

Other programs with expiring miles/points seem to be able to tell me when a certain number of my miles/points will expire, so it is up to AE to provide this information to me, not for me to hire an accountant or bookkeeper to find this out!
