If you really want to max out points earnings don't forget to put your hydro, telephone, cable etc as pre-authorised payments onto the cc you choose. Easy points for stuff you are getting anyway, plus you end up with only one bill a month to pay.
I looked into doing this for my father on his aeroplan card. Only Telus and Shaw would let you pre pay by credit card monthly. The other utilities, such as Enmax (power) and Direct Energy (gas) along with blue cross and alberta health only support direct deposit from your chequing account. You can't wash the payments through your credit card. :/
In Tokyo I can only get my electrical charges put through my credit card, all the others do not support pre auth credit card payments.
