I was there Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and the check-in area seemed to be operating smoothly.
It seems the often-closed security checkpoint near the international terminal (behind gate 75 or so) is designated as the elite security line. This checkpoint appears to be closed at off-peak hours, as it was closed at 8pm on Tuesday, but open at 5pm on Wednesday.
from what you're saying, it looks like it will follow the hours of the "old" elite line. not to open before 5 (tho usally closer to 5:30 because the tsa just oh, so speedy) and close at 8pm to $crew over red-eye and last flight out fliers
