Why not switch the MBNA Gold to the MBNA SPG card and consolidate spending on this? I'm not sure what MBNA requires to switch cards, but most banks will allow you to do it over the phone. This might be a good option if you adverse to paying an annual fee. The only difficulty is that you may not be able to transfer your Starpoints to Aeroplan -- I've read conflicting info on this.
