I have one from Plano Molding that holds about 6 rods and telescopes to I think an 8' rod length. I've never checked it on a plane, but it has been dropped off van roof, stepped on repeatedly, stored in heat of attic, etc.

I suppose if it gets tossed enough, a guide may break off a rod. Else, I think the worst damage could be breaking the case handle. It accomodates a lock should that interest you for checking.
