Thalys, like Eurostar, is not operated by SNCF.
Rack ticket is very expensive, quite true! However they do feature interesting promotions from time to time (also depending on how full the trains are).

If you book ahead of time, you can find a return ticket in second class under 50 Euros (Smilies ticket if I'm not mistaken).
