In the scope of things, though, it's relatively minor cost cutting measure. At least we still have free domestic IFE, lots of domestic widebody flights, free drinks on int'l flights in coach, and can apply the fare (minus change fees) from unused tickets to new ones for up to a year.

And, speaking from personal experience, sometimes for more than a year. I had a very nice NW agent book my fare once using a nonrefundable ticket that was from 16 months ago and just charging me the diff, less the change fee, of course!
Ask, you never know when someone is gonna go the extra mile for you!
