You can switch to Thrifty. In Hawaii at least they only check for the cost of the rental.

Use rate code HT14004114. This gives you a corporate rate, there are no extra driver fees also on this rate if you have anyone with you.

I used this in January, renting on 3 islands for $30 per day... just booking directly at thrifty.com without the code was $40-50.
