We have a little baby and have found it most confounding how some airlines have you strap her in to a seat-belt (baby extension) and some will tell you to hold her during take-off and landing. Each will tell you their way is the safest. We're confused !!!

We've compromised and had her in a Baby Bjorn during take-off and landing - although once on Air France they were just about to disallow that until cooler heads prevailed among the crew.
